Never heard of Pilates? Not a problem. Most of our participants have never before seen the word Pilates before they walk through our doors. In fact, a lot of people mistake Pilates for Pie and Lattes. (Also not a problem. We have specific "Pie and Lattes" events at least once a year.)
We've got a great article breaking down the specifics of Pilates should you have in depth questions. If you're just skimming, though, here are the biggest questions we often receive:
WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a form of exercise that builds strength, increases flexibility, increases endurance and improves posture – all without placing any stress on the joints. Each exercise stems from deep within, strengthening the smallest of muscles that serve the biggest purposes within the body.
Ever wonder why you can dead lift 250 pounds but throw your back out when you lift a baby out of a crib? That's due to the lack of strength in your deep stabilizing muscles. Pilates targets those hard to find muscles through a series of intricate movements.
WHO DOES IT BENEFIT?
Pilates benefits people of all ages, conditions, and lifestyles. In particular, Pilates has shown to benefit pregnant and postnatal women, those recovering from an injury, athletes looking to improve performance, seniors looking to improve balance and strength, equestrians looking to improve awareness between horse and rider, cyclists looking to increase their speed, etc. Anyone and everyone can find benefit in adding Pilates to their wellness lifestyle.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE?
Typically, Pilates exercises should be performed at least twice a week in order to see results, whether that be increased strength, relief from pain, increased flexibility, etc.
